Small backyard landscaping ideas that you can utilize is to visualize an area in your backyard that can be called “your place” where you can go and have some relaxing time.  You can fix this area to have a small patio where you can put some comfortable lawn charges, or if there is room you can hang a hammock.  In this area you can have a small rock garden and a fountain with the sounds of soothing running water.  To get to this oasis, you can make a stone walkway that would not have to be straight.

This pathway could meander by some sweet smelling rose bushes, or a small lovely flower garden on the way to your place.  If you have the room you could also plant trees in the back two corners of your backyard.  If you have a patio you can incorporate a pole where you can hang plants or a plant stand for several different types of potted flowers.  Another small backyard landscaping idea is to make an herbal garden flower box to go on one side of your patio or if you can, you can anchor it to your house under the kitchen window.

The one thing that you need to make sure is that you do not over crowd your backyard with plants, shrubs, trees, and furniture.  Leave some of your backyard with nothing but the green grass to give the yard the appearance of being more spacious and larger than it actually is.

You should also try to incorporate some soft lighting into your small backyard landscaping ideas.  You do not want them so bright that you are disturbing the neighbors or taking away from your beautiful landscaped backyard.  If you have decided to use a walkway in your backyard you can strategically place solar powered lights along the pathway.  You can also use small solar powered floodlights to draw attention to your flowers such as your flower garden, or rose plants.
