Considerations when doing Landscape Design

Doing a landscape design plan might seem too huge a task for someone who is not familiar with it especially when you consider yourself not having a “green thumb”.  However, this should not stop you from enjoying rearranging your space for there are just a few things to consider when doing your own design.

Usage is a big factor to consider when doing your plans.  Your landscape design can center on this alone for this will help you out in planning the appropriate elements to include in the design.  Usage of the yard includes the following: foot traffic, recreation, screening conditions and views to accentuate.  Foot traffic is considered so that you would know what kind of grass to place or if the installation of pathways is needed so as not to ruin grass growth.  Pets are also a consideration for dogs and cats love to dig holes on the ground.  You would not want to be stressed out everyday because of diggings and pet poop around your garden.

The views in your gardens can be accentuated more with the help of your garden design.  Since you already know the extent of the usage of the area, you can now go back to the drawing board and begin your design. The common consideration for gardens has been aesthetics however; since you already identified more or less the users then functionality must come first.  If the whole place becomes functional for the whole family, then the place will be much more appreciated. From this, you will be able to know which kind of plants to place, what flowers to plant and where to put the pathways and other areas that needs to be planned accordingly.  Also, you know that you will be able to maintain and upkeep the look that you created.

One does not have to be a rocket scientist to be able to make a functional landscape design.   You just need to consider and envision what you want to happen to an otherwise empty space overrun by grass and weeds.
