Tips for beginners to become great landscape designer
A perfect landscape is one that makes one feel good. As a landscape designer, you should ensure that the landscape design is transparent and appeals to the visitor. Apart from the design considerations, some other points need to be in your consideration while doing any landscape designing.
Wide pathways
While designing any landscape, you should pay attention to the pathways. These need to be wide enough so that a cluttered look does not emerge for the design. The pathways designed should be wide enough so as to accommodate two people. While designing steps within these pathways, attention needs to be paid to the fact that they should not be higher than 6’’.
Material selection
A great design becomes complete only when you use good flooring material. Do not use any hardscape material as it becomes slippery while wet. You should ensure that the material being used for flooring provides perfect footing in all circumstances. If for any reason, the surface is hard, ensure that it is slightly sloped. This keeps the water away and there is no water pooling.
Plantations
A vital aspect of any landscape design is the kinds of plants you use in the design. Besides the choice of species, another imperative that you need to keep in mind is the soil type, light availability, exposure to wind, and moisture levels. Check the site’s exposure prior to finalizing any plan of having plant species for the landscape design. Even the most expensive homes enhance the beauty and air by making sure lush greens are also in the home and next to house.
Minimize the steep slopes
Slopes are always a challenge when it comes to landscape designing. These always have a potential for erosion and runoff. As a beginner in landscape designing, you need to ensure that the slopes are minimized. In case, the same cannot be avoided and planting needs to be carried on these slopes only, ensure that you choose plant species that have deeper roots. This provides stabilization to the slope and prevents erosion too.
Grouping of plants as per water needs
All your efforts for making a better landscape idea can go waste in case you flatter with the choice of species. Ensure that the plant species you choose for a particular site have similar water requirements. Under watering and over watering can ruin the landscape garden. Choose with vision and take help of a botanist, in case you are not sure with the species that can be planted in a particular zone.
Consider grass as an additive
Grass can be considered as an additive that adds value to the landscape idea. Though a grass lawn is difficult to maintain, but as a beginner in landscape designing, you must add a grass carpet to the landscape design. The grass cover adds a distinct look to the landscape design besides helping soothe ones senses.
Future planning
Always leave a scope for improvement. While doing the initial designing, keep some open spaces that can be used in future as per the requirement. This will save time and money at the later stage as no modifications will be need to be done to the existing landscape.
Follow the above listed guidelines and your landscape ideas are sure to get appreciation from distinct quarters.
